Prepping for PAX

I leave for PAX in a week.

I am in no way prepared. I’d like to say I’ve planned what to pack, what I’m doing, etc. but I haven’t. I’ve just been too busy with school!

This week alone I have an essay draft and four different assignments due. Next week I have two or three different exams and an equal number of assignments. AND I’m leaving on Thursday, so the week is that much shorter.

I’ve made up a decent schedule of what I would like to do/see at PAX, but I have no idea how that is going to hold up. I have a LOT of stuff on there, and I’m sure I’m not going to be able to attend all of it. People have suggested making a schedule like I have, and then cutting it in half, just to be sure you see the things you absolutely want to. I suppose I can try that.

As far as packing goes, it occured to me that I don’t have a decent bag to pack things into. I guess I should probably get one! I did take care of what I hear is a huge issue at PAX (phone battery life) by buying a ZAGGSparq 2.0. It seems to work well, but I won’t really know until I get there. I also wanted to order some new shirts from ThinkGeek, but I don’t think they would arrive in time, nor should I really spend the money. I’d rather save it for things in Boston/at PAX.

Basically, I have entirely too much to do and too little time. But I know that once I’m on that plane on Thursday morning, things will get infinitely better.

We’re Merging!

All of my classes are starting to blur together. Oddly, this is a GOOD thing. They aren’t blurring together because I have too much to do (Though I DO have a lot of work), but because each class is covering roughly the same topics.

In my Language Change and Variation class, we’re moving into language change from a syntax point of view, which fits nicely with my Syntax class! In my Sound Patterns class, we’re starting to examine the environments that certain sounds occur in, which we already did in Language Change. The only class that is completely different is my Natural Language Processing class, which is still a lot of fun.

So, although I have a crazy amount of stuff to do, it doesn’t feel like that much because everything is merging together and it seems like a smaller load.

That doesn’t mean I’m not ready for PAX and Spring Break and such. Can’t wait!

PS: The title of this post is a quote from a movie. Probably more than one movie, but I’m thinking of one in particular. Bonus points if you know what it is!
